Stake Basketball

Well, tonight was the last night of Stake Basketball. It is amazing how many people show up to play in the tournament! Our ward didn't win it all, but they did win their first game and only lost the championship game by 2 points. Ryan played really well and he already can't wait until next year (he is already speculating who on our team will still be in our ward after the split sometime this year!) I sure hope Asher likes basketball!

Valentine's Day

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day weekend! We did. Ryan had Friday off so we tried to take Mabel out for her birthday, but she didn't want to go so we enjoyed our day with only a few errands to do. We finally got a new DVD player for our TV room and Ryan had a stake basketball game. This was their first loss, but hopefully they'll beat them in the tournament in two weeks. Saturday we made some yummy sugar cookies for Valentine's Day to give away and Ryan got really excited because our Girl Scout cookies came too. I am not sure how long they will last since he took a whole box with him to work today! We went to dinner Saturday night at Maggiano's (my favorite). It was really yummy! Then we stopped by a RedBox to rent a movie. We didn't know anything out and everyone in line was talking about this movie "Fireproof." A few people left without a video because it wasn't there. Well, the person in front of Ryan returned the movie so we decided to just get it. Even the lady behind us said what a great movie it was. Well, can you imagine thinking you are going to be watching some movie like "Backdraft" and what you really rented was some Christian movie about coming to know God and saving your marriage? Well, that is what it was. It was made by some church in Georgia. We should have known considering it was only rated PG. Oh well, it was only a buck!

Sunday Ryan was called to be in Cub Scouts over the 8 year olds. I am sure he'll love it, but he (and some others) were really sad to have him released from his Primary class. I am hoping to get Asher's room done this week, but Ryan has a full week of work so we'll see what actually gets done!

Registering

Okay so this weekend we were super busy with a million places to go on Saturday. First we headed off to the temple area to get some gifts for upcoming baptisms. Turns out that they don't have much in stock and I guess we'll be ordering from Deseret Book next time! Next we grabbed some lunch and headed over to Target to register for Asher. We weren't planning on registering, but have had quite a few people ask us about it so we figured why not. Well, first off I think that all baby registries should come with some sort of recommendation like "please bring your sister/friend/etc that already has children with you to register (husbands not essential)" because once we had the scanner in our hands we looked at each other and realized we had no idea what to scan! We just started laughing that we were so clueless as to what we needed. The Target we had stopped at didn't have much of a selection either so we just scanned a few things and left. We had a baptism to go to before we headed to Babies 'r Us to register so I called Khendra. She had a lot of good ideas to what we should register for so the second store was much easier and we think we registered for a lot of things we'll actually need and use.

Sunday we had dinner with some good friends from BYU Emily and Jeff Anderson and their new neighbors. It really is amazing how small the LDS realm is. After talking with their neighbor we realized she knew Ryan's brother-in-law from up in Blackfoot where they both grew up. We had a great dinner and a great time playing dominoes. The Ortons (Emily's family) are big time game players and it reminded Ryan and I of all the fun we had with them at BYU.

Hopefully, Ryan will be finishing up the surfboard for Asher's room this week so I'll post some pictures soon.

Happenings..

We have been busy the last couple weeks! (Our computer is still only working when it wants and the desktop was moved to the office where we have no internet connection so posting is still going to be sporadic.) We have been painting, doing other projects, working, etc. Ryan finshed painting Asher's room and getting the molding up. It looks really good. We also found a few turtles for the wall and Ryan has cut out a surfboard to hang Asher's name on. I think it is going to turn out really cute! We'll post some pictures of it completely finished.

Ryan's parents and Ashley came to visit this past weekend and we had a lot of fun at the park, going out to dinner and watching the Cardinals play pretty well during the Super Bowl. Ryan had been craving hot wings so he decided to make them for the party. Besides the huge amount of hot oil spilled on our back porch they were a huge hit!

Last night was our first birthing class and Ryan did surprisingly well. We only watched a short video as an introduction, but he said it wasn't that bad. We'll have to wait for the third week when the whole class is centered around the delivery to see how he really fares!

Here is a picture of Asher's room as a work in progress. The blue matches the fabric of his blanket and valance almost perfectly and then we left the tan color at the top. Also, there is a pic of one of the three turtles that we are going to hang on the wall swimming in the blue.

Guesses??

So, the other day we were at Home Depot getting some stuff for Asher's room. Ryan went to find somebody to help us. While I was waiting for him to come back this old black lady walked by me and stopped. She said "You're having a boy aren't you?" I told her I was which she then responded "he'll be 8 1/2 lbs. I know these things. I just know these things." Then she walked away. I think I just had a stunned look on my face considering I had no idea who this lady was, but we thought it would be fun if people we actually knew made some predictions. So, how big do you think Asher is going to be??

Missing in Action...

Well, we haven't updated our blog in quite a while, but we do have an excuse. Our labtop has decided to stop turning on so we dragged the old desktop out of the closet and luckily it still worked! (thanks mom and dad for getting me this in college!) So, for a pregnant lady this is not the best set-up.

but it will have to do until we can figure out how to get the internet router connected in the other room that has a table. Here is what we have been up to the past few weeks:

1. Ryan cleaned out the garage so we can actually walk around my car. He admires his work everytime we go to leave.

2. We got Asher some more clothes and are pretty set until after the shower to see what we still need. Now if only he had a dresser to put them all in.

3. Picked out some paint colors for Asher's room. We'll post some pics when it is all done.

4. Spent days- okay about a week - making the Great to Be Eight booklets for our primary. The kids loved them so it was worth it even if we did break 3 different hole punchers trying to put them together.

5. Making beanbags for my last sharing time of the month (which was a big hit) on my grandmother's 44 year old sewing machine. Ryan didn't think it would still work, but if you knew my Grandma Ashe you wouldn't even doubt it was in perfect condition. And if you know my sewing abilities you would be laughing as hard as I was at the thought of me sitting down to sew something!

6. Stake basketball games. Ryan decided he needed a headband for basketball and I knew you would all want to see him with it!

"Surf" Report

Although baby Reed will always be "Surf" to Ryan and my dad, he finally has an official name. His name will be Asher Ryan Reed. We can't wait to meet him!!! I also realized that we have no clothes for him so I went a little crazy at Gymboree today, but got some really cute clothes and some really good deals. I'll have to post a picture of all his new clothes.
