Rain or Shine

When it only cools down when it pours you have to take advantage of it! Asher loved running in the rain and sliding down the wet slide. Good thing his dad will play with him in the rain!

Happy Birthday!

Yesteday was Ryan's birthday and since we took a trip last weekend we decided to just hang out this weekend. Saturday we got some of Ryan's favorite breakfast foods - donuts and kolaches -for breakfast and then went to his favorite store - Performance Bike. He got some awesome gifts from his parents there, especially a new yellow jersey which he has wanted forever. Sunday we had everyone over for his birthday dinner and a perfect Texas dessert - Texas sheetcake and Bluebell ice cream. It was great to spend the weekend just hanging out with family. Happy Birthday Ryan!!

Father's Day

For Father's Day Ryan decided he wanted to head up to the Austin area Friday and Saturday. First we stopped at Hamilton Pool, a natural swimming hole. It was a short hike to the pool and falls and well worth it. Asher really liked it. He was not happy when Ryan swam to see the falls alone so Ryan had to take him back out. We stayed for a while and had lunch and then headed to Pedernales State Park. We set up camp and then headed down to the river. It was a really hot day and the river was a perfect place to spend it. We decided to hit a dive outside of Pedernales for dinner and then head back to camp for s'mores. White we were getting the fire going I looked up and there was a deer in our camp. Asher didn't like it at first since I was so startled when I first saw it, but then just watched it with us. The deer just stayed around for a while until he finally decided we weren't going to feed him. We finally headed to bed around 10. Unfortunately not too long after that, dinner and the heat was not sitting well with me and after losing all my dinner and more, we decided to head home. Fortunately, we were able to stay awake and make it home around 2:30 that morning. We had lots of fun despite coming home early and only missed getting barbecue in Lockhart so we'll be making another trip for that.

Sunday at church the men get pies at the end of Priesthood and Ryan enjoyed two pieces of my apple pie (thanks for the recipe Bexar - he loved it). After that Ryan's parents came over for a wonderful Father's Day dinner. Susan also brought Ryan some lemon bars and the Petersons stopped by to bring some cinnamon bears. We were stuffed full by the end of the night.

We are so grateful for Ryan! Asher is so lucky to have such a great dad that loves to do so many fun things with him. It is always an adventure with those two!

What We've Been Up To

For the Memorial Day weekend we had lots of fun hanging out at the beach club, eating barbecue and getting to spend time with Ryan's family. We can't wait for the next long holiday weekend! Ryan was out of town last week so Asher and I made the cutest craft with our good friends. Lets just say one year olds may not care for paint on their hands and feet, but food is always a great distraction.

We've also started to visit all the different pools with our friends from the ward. Good thing Asher loves the water! Yes he even loves it when it is raining and coming out of the gutter. (Isn't this the greatest way to spend a Sunday afternoon.)

We also decided to get a piano since Asher loves music so much. It needs a little tlc, but I love the look of it -(that's whats important right?). And to my siblings - yes I matured and can play softly now!

Hawaii

We had so much fun in Hawaii the past week. It was hard to come back!! We enjoyed the beach after Asher warmed up to the sand and water. The first day he wanted nothing to do with it and would only sit on my lap on a towel. After that he loved digging in the sand, riding the waves on the boogie board and just eating and relaxing. Asher definitely knows how to relax whether it was with a granola bar, a cookie, or a tropical drink. And no he will not share his lava flows or mango drinks!! We also went to the Polynesian Cultural Center one day. Asher loved it! He loves music and couldn't get enough of the Tongan drums or the Figi bamboo sticks. He also loved the show after the luau. He clapped at all the parts of the show if there were drums or fire! It is a long day there and we were so glad he loved it so much. We were also able to do a small hike up to Waimea falls, where Ryan and my dad swam to the waterfall. It was a gorgeous paved hike through a botanical garden and the kids loved it! Then we did a little boogie boarding at Waimea beach. Ryan was able to go deep sea fishing the first full day there as well with all the guys. They caught quite a few tuna, a mahi, and Ryan decided he needed to touch a shark while they were getting their bait! (Yes only my husband would think that was a good idea). Unfortunately, my parents luggage was lost and so was the dramamine so Ryan, Steve B. and Kason (who got it the worst) will never go without that again! Ryan also got some surfing in a few days and enjoyed just being out in the water. We did so many other things as well like the flea market, seeing the temple, getting Matsumotos shaved ices, the Dole plantation, shopping, relaxing and lots of eating at Ted's. We loved being able to spend such an awesome vacation with my family! We can't wait to go again!!

Road Trip

Last weekend we made a trip up to Fort Worth/Arlington area for a wedding reception. Friday we left right after Asher's doctor's appointment. Asher did so great - we stopped for gas and that was it. That night we met up with our friend Grua and his wife and had dinner at a cajun restaurant. Ryan had to order the alligator tails for an appetizers since they were on the menu. They actually weren't too bad - little bit of meat covered in triple the amount of fried batter. Even Asher had one! We had lots of fun at dinner and were glad they were free to meet up. We'll just say Asher didn't care for the pack 'n play so we eventually had to let him sleep on the bed surrounded by pillows and Ryan. In the morning we headed to Cedar Hills State Park. It had rained the night before so the trials were closed, so we checked out Penn Farm inside the park. It had old farm houses, barns, tractors and fun things to walk around and see. Asher loved walking on the old porches and driving the tractor! It was lots of fun and perfect weather. Then we headed to the rececption. It was such a great reception completely casual and laid back on a patio at Pappasito's (they had eloped in late February) and Asher loved walking around checking everything out. We headed home after the reception and just made a short stop in College Station for some dinner. We had lots of fun - it was a great road trip!
